Tamara Lortkipanidze (b.1989) is a Georgian artist currently living and working in Barcelona, Spain. She studied at the faculty of Multimedia Design, Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts, and experimented extensively in different media before finding her visual language in painting.
Tamara's style is meticulously executed paintings that are a combination of highly realistic but, at the same time, absurd, breathtakingly beautiful, but utterly gruesome compositions. Her artworks are often imbued with personal symbolism that serves as the artist's reflection on her homeland - contradictory and violent, where dominating conservative values are so imposing that they almost physically abuse one's mind. Tamara has developed her signature style that can be characterized as magical realism - where great attention is paid to building excessive, baroque settings; each detail is carefully depicted, and each character is carefully dressed. It is apparent that the artist is interested in fashion as a testament to the time. Through this style, the artist does not create only psychological portraits of herself, friends, and acquittances that, but also paints a vivid socio-political mural—an evocative portrayal of the society that nurtured her from which she eventually broke free. She explores human interiority, sometimes with fabulous, occasionally brutal, and sometimes with erotic approaches.
She also works on women's sexuality topics. In 2017 she published the handmade, silk-printed artist book "EROTIC STORIES" featuring a collection of real and fictional stories and sketches inspired by them.
